I decided to make a stronger effort this year to try to successfully translate my style to traditional media. I’m pretty comfortable with digital at this point but messing around with real paint is always so much fun and I like having an actual physical object out of it. I really like the look of gouache and I think it’s probably the best medium for the kind of work I do, but I’ve had some bad encounters with it in the past, so this time around I decided to make a very rough digital color key (that I’m posting too!) before starting to paint so I would already have some decisions made regarding colour, temperature and value relations. I also tried to avoid being overly ambitious with the piece and keep it simple for now, until I get to know the medium better. It definitely helped, and I’m pretty happy with how this came out!

The piece is a gift for my dad’s wife who has a birthday coming soon, so I made a portrait of her dog, Fidel. Gouache and color pencil on paper.

Este año me interesa intentar con un poco más de ahínco de trasladar de manera exitosa mi estilo a algún medio tradicional. Si bien estoy cómoda con el digital, me gusta enchastrar con pintura denserio y también está bueno obtener un objeto físico de la cuestión. Me encanta de aspecto como queda el gouache y me parece que va bien con el tipo de cosas que yo hago, pero la verdad le tenía un poco de idea porque he tenido algunos encontronazos con él en el pasado, así que esta vez decidí hacer un estudiecito de color en digital (que también lo posteo!) antes de empezar a pintar cosa de tener ya algunas decisiones tomadas en cuanto a color, temperatura y relaciones de valor. Y también decidí bajarme de la moto y mantener la pieza simple. Y bueno parece que funcionó bastante bien, al menos yo estoy bastante satisfecha con el resultado.

La ilus en sí es un regalito para la mujer de mi viejo que cumple los años pronto, así que hice un retrato de su perro, Fidel. Gouache y lápices de colores sobre papel.

Hey hey! I havent’ posted anything here for quite a while so here’s a little something I made for Conceptart’s Character of the Week activity, the topic was “the Dragon Egg” and it was supposed to be a cover for a Young Adult novel including a girl 12 to 16 years old and a dragon egg, the rest was pretty much open for interpretation. Sooo here’s what I did. I’m including the final illo, the “cover” version with title, and some little steps of the process. Again, made with Illustrator and Photoshop. Hope you like it!

Holassss! Hace rato que no posteo nada así que acá les va una ilus que hice esta semana para la actividad “Character of the Week” en Conceptart, el tema era “El huevo de dragón” y se suponía que era una tapa de una novela Young Adult (que pese al nombre creo que suelen estar más bien apuntadas a púberes), había que incluir una chica de unos 12 a 16 años y un huevo de dragón, lo demás era interpretación libre, y esto es lo que yo hice. Puse la versión final de la ilus, una con el título y diseño “de tapa”, y unas capturas del proceso de yapa. Nuevamente, Illustrator y Photoshop

I was taking a look at the stuff I had in my portfolio a couple of weeks ago and I realized that for all my love of the genre, I didn’t have any fantasy illos, and I decided to make these to remedy that issue. So there you go: pointy ears, illithids, dragons, swords, magic and goblins. I had a blast! By the way, I stole the topic of  “drow vs mindflayers” from one of the challenges at Jon Schindehette’s blog “Art Order”, it was way too full of win to pass!

Estaba analizando mi portfolio hace un par de semanas y me encontré con que, a pesar de ser gran fan del género, no tenía ninguna ilus de fantasía, y me decidí a hacer estas para remediar la situación. Así que acá las tienen: orejas puntiagudas, ilítidos, dragones, espadas, magia y goblins, me di el gusto a lo grande! Por cierto, el tema de “drow versus ilítidos” se lo robé a uno de los concursos que realizó Jon Schindehette en su blog “Art Order”, porque era demasiado genial para dejarlo pasar.

Si se dieron una vuelta por mi sitio recientemente por ahí ya las vieron, perdón!

Squirrels are among my favorite animals for sure, they’re cute, and agile, and so fun to observe! So I made this little pic out of pure squirrel love (once again, Illustrator + Photoshop).

Pigs are also high up on my list, as you may have concluded from the name of the blog,  and they deserved some love as well, so I made this plush pig called Piggory here. I’m really happy about the pattern I developed for this one, I think the shape came out really nice. I’m also proud of its curly tail!

Las ardillas están entre mis animales favoritos: son tiernas, ágiles, y entretenidísimas de observar! Así que la primera ilus está hecha de puro amor ardillil (una vez más, Illustrator + Photoshop).

Los chanchitos (o cerditos, para los que no hablan argentino) también me encantan, como pueden haber deducido por el nombre de este blog, y también merecían una dosis de cariño, por lo que hice este peluche cerdil que bauticé como Piggory. Estoy particularmente contenta con el molde que hice para él, creo que la forma resultante quedó muy interesante, y también con su colita enrulada.

Soooo I made this for the upcoming Göoo magazine, an Argentinian collaborative publication, the topic was “Pleasure”. The format is quite unique so it was not so easy but I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.
